For almost half a century, the Cold War and the Space Race were
commemorated by the mysterious flying saucer looming over Adelphi Rd. at
the Hyattsville Branch of the Prince George's Public Library. Now, with
the library slated to be demolished and rebuilt, local citizens have
organized a campaign to "Save Our Saucer" by incorporating the Mid-Century
Modern sculpture into the new library's design. Read about the popular
groundswell, and the county government's continued intransigence, in
the *Hyattsville
Life & Times*' September issue:

Also in the September edition, details about the three new area schools
just opened (private, charter, and Montessori preschool); the campaign to
extend free access to the University of Maryland shuttle bus; local Masonic
history; Hyattsville nursery turning yard waste into topsoil; and lots more.
