Showcase set for 2nd Annual Cultural Arts Expo
State, local arts groups performing and offering opportunities on April 26th
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. -- For the second time, residents in Prince George’s
County can catch an entertaining introduction to singers, dancers,
puppeteers, painters and other state-funded arts groups from across
Maryland at the 2014 Cultural Arts Expo on Saturday, April 26th.
More than 20 vendors are signed up for the event, which also features
performances by musicians, acting troupes and other groups from across the
state. The expo runs from 9:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Show Place Arena and
is organized and co-hosted by Delegate Melony G. Griffith.
"Prince George's County and the state of Maryland are fortunate to have
many vibrant artists who have a lot to share," said Griffith, a strong
supporter of arts and education programs and member of the Maryland State
Arts Council. "Marylanders understand the economic impact of the arts
organizations in our communities, and we want to make sure our citizens are
aware and take advantage of the investments we have made."
Doors open at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday April 26th. Performances begin at 10
a.m. with a stage program featuring live musical and theatre productions,
including a puppet show by Prince George's own Ebony Sonshine Puppets.
Visitors will also get a chance to see other treasures of Maryland's
cultural arts scene including exhibits from the Maryland Science Center,
the Reginald F. Lewis African American History & Culture Museum, Maryland
Choral Society and the Great Blacks in Wax Museum of Baltimore. The
National Children’s Museum will also be at the showcase.
The event is supported through collaboration with the Parks and Recreation
of the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission, the Prince
George’s Arts and Humanities Council and the Maryland State Arts Council.
In addition to promoting the availability of arts programs across the State
of Maryland, Griffith hopes the expo will inspire families and individuals
to discover new, low-cost opportunities for family and group outings and
artistic expression for expo visitors.
The Show Place Arena is located on 14900 Pennsylvania Avenue Upper
Marlboro, MD 20772. For more information on the April 26th Cultural Arts
Expo, contact Quentin Walker at culturalartsexpo at gmail.com.
