For several University of Maryland students and recent grads, it was the
ultimate off-campus experience: rent a house, convert the basement into a
music hall, book up to five indie-rock bands per event, charge admission,
designate the neighboring church as concert parking, and ask patrons not to
trash the neighborhood on their way home. But the dream turned into a
nightmare for this Hyattsville group house when the residents found
themselves face down on the floor with guns to their heads. Read the lurid
details in February's investigative exclusive in the *Hyattsville Life &
Times*:

Also in this month's issue: the region's premier seafood restaurant --
Riverdale Park's Calvert House -- quietly closes after 50 years; the secret
to where to find rare locally sourced food in winter (also in Riverdale
Park); and an answer to the question, what do police militarization and
front-yard fence fortification have to do with each other? (See yours
truly's editorial for the last.)
