CONSTRUCTION TO START ON CAFRITZ PROJECT
Mixed Use Community to Include County's First Whole Foods Market
Riverdale Park, MD - Construction is anticipated to begin on the Calvin
Cafritz Enterprises (CCE) project in Riverdale Park as early as the week of
Monday, January 27, 2014. CCE received its Temporary Access Permit and
Rough Grading Plan approvals this week clearing the way for construction of
the project.
"We're pleased to begin construction," said Jane Cafritz of Calvin Cafritz
Enterprises. "We appreciate all the efforts of Prince George's County, the
Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, the Towns, and local
neighbors to help us create this 'Point of Pride' in Riverdale Park."
The nearly 37 acre Main Street community will include the county's first
Whole Foods Market, 985 high quality residential units including a portion
reserved for active adults, quality commercial retail, office and flex
space, extensive walking paths and a hiker/biker path integrated into the
existing network of trails as well as millions of dollars in transportation
improvements including a new CSX crossing on the site to provide traffic
relief on Route 1.
"This is an important and very exciting development project for Prince
Georges County. Not only is the County finally getting its first Whole
Foods Market, this development will also bring in new residential, retail,
and dining options that will create jobs and help bolster an already vibrant
commercial corridor," said County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III.
Mayor Vernon Archer of Riverdale Park added, "This is truly a milestone
moment for this project and for the Town of Riverdale Park. The new
community will be a great addition to our Town."
During the first two weeks of construction, the General Contractor, L.F.
Jennings, will be installing erosion and sediment control fencing and ponds,
flagging the limits of clearing, installing tree protection, performing
limited clearing for the erosion and sediment control and installing the
construction trailer and construction entrance on-site.
L.F. Jennings anticipates that the site work will take 10 months concurrent
with the construction of the first buildings - to include the new Whole
Foods Market - to be completed and opened in late 2015.
