Hello Ms. Schoppet,
The "various digging" around town has been the systematic replacement of water mains by WSSC and their assigned contractors; an ongoing multiyear project underway in both Prince George's and Montgomery County. Being carried out in phases within the town, your Town Administrator, Sara Imhulse, as well as your Director of Public Works, Leonard Addison, are working with WSSC to assure the road infrastructure is resurfaced properly upon completion of the water main replacement. 
As well you may have noticed the work being done on the 6100 block of 49th Avenue to reconstruct the roadway to handle the rerouted bus line due to WMATA making the determination its buses will not cross the train tracks; a determination made after a bus became entrapped between the gates several years ago. The town has appealed to WMATA to reconsider their decision and they have decided to stand by their decision.
The efforts made by the mayor as well as those by the Public Works Committee - chaired by CM Chris Henry and sitting with CM Thompson and CM and Vice Mayor Ebbeler - to work with and through staff to address the above mentioned projects are of an ongoing nature. Together, their objective is to work with WSSC and other contractors to provide a proper road infrastructure. What may be underestimated, publicly, is the time necessary to coordinate undertakings of this nature. The process is deliberate so as to assure the expenditure of public funds on a given project, like those being performed, as well as the project itself is done properly from start to finish. Like you, your council (mayor included) and staff want our streets in good order and both are persistent and determined to see that realised.
