Hello,
Over more than a decade, Prince Georges Feral Friends, SPCA has been
contacted by dozens of residents of Prince George's County reporting
about contact with employees of the Prince George's County Animal
Management Division. Many of these reports described misrepresentations
of the law by AMD, and infringements on the rights of the citizens.
PGFF SPCA filed suit against PG County regarding three different matters
and prevailed on all three. In spite of our success, the County has
simply ignored the ruling of the judge, lied about the outcome of the
case, and continued to misrepresent the law and violate the rights of
the citizens.
Employees of Animal Management Division claim "We have to enforce the
law." If you live in Prince George's County and have pets, or if you
are a Good Samaritan who feeds Community Cats, you would be better off
knowing what the law says before you have your first encounter with AMD
personnel.
PGFF SPCA offers a brief overview of the law in our orientation
meetings. I would like to offer a somewhat expanded version of "Animal
Management and the Law" in which we will compare samples of AMD's
Incident/Investigation Reports, Warnings, and Citations with the text of
the applicable laws. I will provide a copy of the laws for participants
to take home and refer to later.
I would like to hold this workshop in the College Park area on Thursday,
June 11, at 6 p.m. There is no charge or obligation. Because of the
effort and expense involved in preparation of the handout, I would like
to have interested persons R.S.V.P. with their name and contact
information. That way I will know how many packages to prepare.
You can R.S.V.P. to me at the email address below.

" ... It really can be done. And the only thing ever stopping it is the
rigid belief that it can't be done. But once the determination to bring
an end to the killing is there, the ingenuity, the good ideas, and the
cooperative spirit all start to emerge."
