Last night, you should have set your clocks back by one hour. The rule of thumb is to also check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors when changing your clocks. And remember that carbon monoxide is a silent, odorless killer.
I have included several links for holiday and winter safety, including two in Spanish.
In summary,
Install smoke alarms inside and outside each bedroom and sleeping area. Install alarms on every level of the home. Install alarms in the basement. A smoke alarm should be on the ceiling or high on a wall. Keep smoke alarms away from the kitchen to reduce false alarms. They should be at least 10 feet (3 meters) from the stove. Replace all smoke alarms when they are 10 years old. CO alarms should be installed outside each sleeping area. Install alarms on every level of the home. It is best to use interconnected alarms. When one sounds, all CO alarms in the home sound. If either alarm sounds, get out and call the fire department from a safe location. Stay there until help arrives.
