Prince George’s County to collect pumpkins for composting

Largo, MD – Go green this Halloween and compost your pumpkin. The Prince George’s County Department of the Environment (DoE) is pleased to announce the collection of pumpkins, in addition to other organic Halloween decorations including dried corn, hay and straw, for composting on the following dates:

*	Wednesday, November 4, 2015*
*	Wednesday, November 11, 2015*

“Rotting pumpkins don’t have to go to waste. We’re asking the thousands of County residents who celebrate Halloween by carving a

jack-o’-lantern, to participate in this special collection of pumpkins for composting. It’s an environmentally friendly alternative to throwing away their pumpkins and it keeps tons of organics out of the landfill while nourishing the soil and mother Earth,” said Adam Ortiz, DoE Director.

There are two ways to compost your pumpkins and organic Halloween materials:

1.	Place items curbside for residential pick up (items are not required to be bagged, but paper lawn/leaf bags must be used if residents choose to bag materials for collection)
2.	Residents may drop off materials at the County’s Convenience Centers on specified dates
