CONSTRUCTION UPDATE NOTICE 

 

Weeks of: September 14, 2015 and September 21, 2015 

 

What to Expect On-Site the Next Two Weeks: 

During the next two weeks of work, the General Contractor, L.F. Jennings,
and their subcontractors will continue site construction around the Whole
Foods Market and along Route 1. Underground utility work to install storm
drains, water mains, conduits and sanitary sewers is proceeding in multiple
areas on the site. Pepco crews are currently installing cabling and
equipment for permanent power on site. Gas main installation from Route 1
into the site by Washington Gas should begin by 9/21/15. 

 

The contractor will begin to install a 48" drainage culvert pipe under the
CSX railroad tracks as part of the storm water management requirements on
9/14/15. Once this culvert is completed (estimated date is 10/30/15), the
construction of a large storm water management pond in the NE corner of the
site can begin. 

 

Lane Closures: 

New storm water outfall line, sanitary sewer, and water main connections in
Route 1 have been installed. Other utility connections for, Verizon, Comcast
and natural gas will now commence. 

 

Future Plans: 

. Two week to two month look-ahead - 

o Continue all of the above work but start an additional building to provide
new retail to the area. 

o Start construction of the Whole Foods Market parking lot. 

o Start construction of the pond at the northeast corner of the site. 

o Start utility relocation for the construction of the CSX Crossing east of
the railroad tracks. 

o Begin widening of Route 1, installation of curb & gutter, and construction
of on-site roads. 

o Start installation of a traffic signal at Van Buren St. & Route1. 

o Begin construction of miscellaneous site structures in Gateway Park. 

o Washington Gas to begin relocation of existing gas main in Maryland Ave.
followed by installation of new storm drain outfall to Wells Run box
culvert. 

 

. Two to six month look-ahead - 

o Start additional retail buildings. 

o Start interior fit-out of Whole Foods. 

o Finish widening of Route 1. 

o Opening of Gateway Park. 

 

Work Hours: 

Work activity will be taking place Monday - Sunday between the hours of 7
a.m. and 7 p.m. However, work on the State highway will be restricted to
9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
