3rd Year Lions Club Scholarships For GPAs, Service Announced

Guy Tiberio Industry-Tech Award Debuts

Riverdale Park, MD. September 28, 2015 - Area students with a grade-point
average of 3.5 and higher and who perform community service are eligible for
scholarships presented by the Riverdale Lions Club, King Lion Patrick
Prangley announced today. The 44-year-old Riverdale Lions chapter will again
award $2,000 in scholarships. The 3rd annual Lions-Jonathan Ebbeler
Scholarships will be presented at the group's community service celebration
and dinner Nov. 18 at The Alamo Mexican Restaurant.

"Riverdale Lions are proud to be part of a community where young people
understand the importance of service to others and we are delighted to be
able to recognize their solid efforts both in school and in community,"
Prangley said. Veteran Lion member and Riverdale Park Council member (Ward
1) Jonathan Ebbeler, who was instrumental in creation of the scholarships
three years ago and who is a major financial contributor to the program,
added that "educational costs have long been on the rise and the Lions want
to help deserving students in anyway we can. It is important for the
community to support the next generation in its pursuit of higher learning
and to let them know we appreciate their positive actions."

This year's awards take on a special twist, says Prangley. He said he was
recently re-reading President John F. Kennedy's 1961 inaugural address that
included Kennedy's plea to fellow Americans "ask not what your country can
do for you--ask what you can do for your country" and he immediately thought
of his longtime friend and mentor, the late Guy Tiberio. Tiberio, a former
multi-term Riverdale Park mayor and counsel member and former King Lion, was
also a businessman, entrepreneur and inventor. He was well-known for his
tireless efforts to build a better community.

"In Guy's memory, we want to recognize students whose studies are focused on
industry, technology and/or pursuit of furthering their education in
engineering and technology or in the trades - electrical, plumbing,
construction and manufacturing," Prangley said. "So, we are casting our net
for qualified candidates for the Guy Tiberio Industrial, Tech and Trade
Scholarship Award."

Carol Anne Bosco, of College Park, and Kelsey Jarman, of Riverdale Park, are
among pervious Lions-Ebbeler Scholarship winners and both tout the benefits
of the prestigious recognition. The 2014 award to Carol Anne made her
pursuit of a degree at the UMD School of Music a little easier as she
studied and performed at area venues. Kelsey's father, Doug Jarman, best
known as "Mister Magic" and who's vintage soft ice cream truck is a fixture
in the community, reports the two-time scholarship winner who is attending
Towson University "has received the honor of Dean's List every semester she
has been there." An Exercise Science major senior, Kelsey was elected vice
president of her sorority Zeta Tau Alpha. She completed a 120-hour
internship as a Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Intern at Baltimore
Washington Medical Center while taking an online nutrition class and
working. "She is extremely thankful for the Riverdale Lions support and
believes in her success through the scholarship given to her. This was
possible through Jonathan Ebbeler and Lions Club and the many others
involved. Thank you again for the scholarship to help further her
education."

The Lions Club International is a 97-year-old secular service organization
