Hey there neighbors (and apologies to those getting duplicates of this
cross-post),

I wanted to draw everyone's attention to the Anacostia River Hero Awards, a
brand new honor that the Anacostia Watershed Society will be awarding this
summer. It's a cash award of $1,000, and nominations are open until June 3.

AWS is looking for people who are doing things to help our community’s
environment be better, healthier and cleaner, so that all of us can benefit
from a restored, healthy Anacostia River and its streams. The categories
are:

   - Stopping pollution – keeping pollution and trash out of the Anacostia
   River
   - Advocating for a clean river – speaking up for what the river and
   streams need to be healthy
   - Connecting our community to the Anacostia River – sharing the beauty
   and potential of our river
   - Restoring nature – helping our environment thrive

Link for details:http://www.anacostiaws.org/anacostia-river-hero-awards

Full disclosure: I work for the Anacostia Watershed Society. I'm not big on
promoting personal work stuff... however, this one I thought was special.

Please share this email! It's also the first article in the email below.

You guys might also be interested in our expanded paddle nights (last
article), which now has guaranteed spots on canoe and pontoon tours. Here's
the link for that:

Thanks all,
Maureen

Want to help us engage local students in hands-on restoration of the
Anacostia River? Join us on Thursday, June 2nd for Do More 24! Hosted by
the United Way of the National Capital Area, Do More 24 is a 24-hour online
fundraiser that brings together hundreds of nonprofits from our region on
one donation platform from 12:00 AM until 11:59 PM on June 2nd to
demonstrate the impact one day of giving can make.

Last year, we raised close to $2,000 during the event, and this year, we
hope to raise $2,400 to support our restoration and education programs this
summer! If 100 people donate
