The Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration (MDOT/SHA) has initiated design of the Pedestrian Safety Improvement Project along MD 410 (East-West Highway/Riverdale Road) from MD 201 (Kenilworth Avenue) to Mustang Drive in Prince George's County. For additional information, you are invited to attend a Public Meeting on:
Tuesday, October 18, 2016
6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
St. Bernard's Catholic Church Gymnasium
5815 Riverdale Road
Riverdale, MD 20737
The informational meeting will acquaint the public with the project and provide attendees an opportunity to discuss project details. Display areas will depict the proposed design, and MDOT/SHA representatives will be available to answer project-related questions. A brief presentation will begin at 6:15 p.m. You may arrive at any time during meeting hours and walk through the display area at your own pace.
The purpose of this project is to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility along MD 410 by providing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) - compliant sidewalk. Other proposed improvements include:
* Installation of a 5-foot sidewalk along the south side of MD 410 from MD 201 to Mustang Drive
* Installation of 6-foot bike lanes on both the north and south side of MD 410
* Elimination of one through lane on eastbound and westbound MD 410 within project limits, to calm traffic
* Extension of the westbound MD 410 left turn lane onto Riverdale Road to provide room for additional vehicles
* Removal of the island in the southeast corner of the MD 410 and MD 201 intersection
* Reconfiguration of the Riverdale Road intersection to allow a shared through/left lane and a right-turn only lane onto MD 410
* Installation of a new traffic signal and pedestrian crossing at the MD 410 and Riverdale Road/58th Avenue intersection
This project is funded for concept development design only. During this phase, MDOT/SHA quantifies impacts on the roadway and adjacent properties before moving forward with the development of preliminary design plans. Final concepts for this project should be completed by spring 2017.
