David Brosch of University Park sends this invitation to RP neighbors:

The next Second Saturday lecture will be held on December 9th as usual at
the University Park Church of the Brethren at 5 pm. Our speaker for this
month will be Monica Hesse, a brand new resident of University Park.
Monica is a reporter for the Washington Post, and the author of the Edgar
Award-winning novel, Girl in the Blue Coat. Most recently, she published
the nonfiction book, American Fire, which was named one of 2017's best
reads by Entertainment Weekly and won starred reviews in Kirkus and
Publishers Weekly. American Fire is a true-crime narrative about
Virginia's largest arson spree but also about love, pride, poverty,
WalMart, erectile dysfunction, Steak-Umms, and America.

Ms. Hesse will talk about this book on Saturday, and also answer questions
and offer commiseration to anyone who has ever considered writing a book or
who is trying to figure out how to muddle through. It's a rough business,
but every writer starts with the same blank page.

There will be a book signing following her lecture.
