[RP TownTalk] Growers, Vendors and health education folks still needed for Farmers Market

potential market vendors!


The Oakcrest Farmers Market is being managed by the Food Justice Coalition
of 20743. The Food Justice Coalition is a group of residents and grassroots
leaders working to make food fair in the 20743 zip code. Our mission is to
restore ownership of the food system to oppressed communities of color. We
have decided to bring a farmers market to Capitol Heights because we want
to increase food access in our community while supporting local businesses,
especially those owned by people of color. The Maryland National Capital
Park and Planning Commission is allowing us to use the space at the
Oakcrest Community Center for the market.


The market will open in July 2018 for 10 weeks. We will be open on
Friday evenings
for four hours between 3pm and 9pm. The reason that we haven’t confirmed a
time slot is because we want to ensure that we choose a time that works for
as many of us as possible. We also want include our vendors on market-wide
decisions, so we will hold a meeting for potential vendors on Friday, April
20th at 6:30pm at Oakcrest Community Center.  At this meeting, we will
finalize market hours, discuss market rules, stall fees, confirm dates, and
discuss vendor requirements (i.e. permitting, licensing, etc.). If you
cannot attend in person, we will have a call-in option and all notes will
be sent out in follow up.
