Hello, Folks!

SURJ GL needs a few more volunteers to help out at the Oakcrest Farmers
Market the next couple Fridays anytime between 1:30 and 7:30. Rides will be
available from Hyattsville at 1pm, or arrive whenever you are able:

1300 Capitol Heights Blvd. MD 20743

This is a great opportunity to concretely support a Racial Justice
initiative in our area (read below for more about FJC20743 and the market).
We know Friday afternoon can be tough with work, but if you have a flexible
schedule, please give us a shout at greenlinesurj at gmail.com

FJC20743 is holding a community meeting at 6pm on 8/31. This would be a
good opportunity to learn more about their work and future plans to keep up
the momentum.

If you aren't able to volunteer, please consider stopping by for some
family fun, dinner, vendor support & yoga (at 6 BYOM)!

SURJ GL's Accountability Partner, The Food Justice coalition of 20743, has
been experimenting with a Farmers Market this summer as part of their long
term goal to open a food co-op in the Capitol Heights Food Swamp (a place
where there is an abundance of fast food but little to no nutrient dense
whole food options). While it won't end hunger it has been raising
awareness in the community for engagement in the local food system. This
endeavor is also serving as an incubator for local small Black owned
businesses, and the produce is supplied by Dreaming Out Loud, an
organization that purchases produce from Black growers and sells them at
lower fees (SNAP, etc. accepted) in communities of color.
