For those of you who think that illegal immigrants don't get welfare, please visit the SNAP office on Belcrest Rd right down the street.  That's the real world not Google's world.

Bruce  - TPS, DACA, and Green Card holders can all get a social security number because they are legally authorized to work.

How can you pay taxes if you don't have a SSN?

I think it would be very democratic to allow more of our fellow town residents to vote in city elections.

Just because someone isn't a US citizen does not mean they don't pay taxes. There are many different circumstances affecting whether someone is or can become a US citizen -for example, someone might  have gotten a green card and not be eligible to become a citizen yet or someone in the Temporary Protected Status program could have lived in the US with - legal authorization -for decades but might have no legal path to citizenship. I am sure there are other examples. Also, if an undocumented worker is not eligible for citizenship no matter how much they desire to be one they cannot. Nonetheless these folks are here working, paying taxes, and contributing to our communities.

Also, undocumented immigrants are not entitled to food stamps and medical care.

The right to vote in a town election and have representation in the community seems reasonable to me.

This is a resend.  Wanted to make sure everyone is aware of this.  Please attend the meeting and voice your opinion.

I've attached the Proposed Legislation for "Voting Expansion" because it wasn't available on the RP website when I checked.

In summary, the proposed legislation removes the requirement of being a US citizen to vote in Riverdale Park (RP).  In addition, a non citizen will be able to vote if they are a resident of RP for 30 days.  Not sure how the Town is going to determine if a non citizen has lived here for 30 days.

I urge all of you to review the attachment carefully and contact your Council person or Mayor as you see fit.  Attending the meeting and voicing your opinion won't hurt either.  This is a major, I repeat major change to RP's voting law.
