*COME JOIN US FOR CAROLING AND CHRISTMAS DAY 2018 VISITATIONS*

*A CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS*

The holidays are a tough time to be alone. While people everywhere are
gathered with friends and families at the holidays, some of our less
fortunate neighbors don’t have that option. That is where the Holiday
Project comes in. Every year, thousands of volunteers around the country
make visits to hospitals and nursing homes, or any place where people can
bring cheer and a smile to someone in need.

Throughout the Washington, D.C. region, team leaders are working with
volunteers, just like you to visit local facilities. Volunteer Team
Co-Leaders Mike Herman and Penny Mendoza invite you to join us on Christmas
Day (December 25 in case you weren’t paying attention). We have been
leading these teams for almost two decades. We will be going to three
facilities, Hillhaven Nursing Home, Crescent Cities Center (Nursing Home
and Rehabilitation Center) and the former Prince George’s Hospital (now
called University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Center). Join us
for all visitations or just one.

You don’t need to have a good voice (p.s. Mike can’t really sing), just a
pleasant spirit. Some of us sing while others just visit with residents,
patients and staff. Bring some sleigh bells, wear something festive, wear
your antlers, bring your smile and some good cheer. Song books will be
provided, as well as small gifts to distribute (generally small stuffed
animals). Most of all, remember that YOU ARE THE GIFT THAT MATTERS!

Come one, come all. Bring a friend. Bring your children (they are
especially welcome at the nursing homes). Call or email Mike or Penny and
let us know if you are coming and what facility you will be going to. Some
people come to the first site and have so much fun that they tag along to
the other sites while others may only do one or two. We always need more
people at the hospital because it is a larger facility, but the more people
we have at each location the better we sound and the more personal visits
we get to do.

*AFTER PARTY/GET TOGETHER* - This year we will do an after party for anyone
who joined us for the Prince George’s visits. Team Leader Michael Herman
and his girlfriend Tanya Johnson will host volunteers from these three
visits at their home after the last visit. The soiree will begin at 3:45
p.m. and run until 6:00 p.m. Come have some eggnog, or other refreshments,
sit by the fire, have some sandwiches, hot food or whatever we have to feed
the voice-strained troops. It is a wonderful way to wind down from a great
day of giving.
