<div><FONT FACE="Times New Roman" SIZE=3> Help make Riverdale Park beautiful this Memorial Day weekend with a townwide cleanup. Pick up trash from our yards, streets and alleyways and dispose of it on Tuesday, May 30, in the special free trash pickup. Have you seen a trashy area that you want cleaned up? Let's all just chip in and do it. </FONT></div>
<div><FONT FACE="Arial" SIZE=3> </FONT></div>
<div><FONT FACE="Times New Roman" SIZE=3> Tuesday May 30 is the one day of the year that the county waives landfill tipping fees, last year this saved the town thousands of dollars. So the Memorial Day weekend is a perfect time to clean up trash from yards, streets and alleyways and to clean out your closets, basement, and garage. Sell what you can at the town sponsored yard sale, Monday, May 29, and take the rest to a thrift store (or arrange for them to pick it up) or put it out with your regular/bulk trash on Tuesday. There is no limit to how much trash you may put out on Tuesday May 30. The more the better! But no tires, yard waste, or appliances that contain Freon that day. Yard waste will be collected Wednesday, May 31. Call Public Works (301-864-180) to arrange for tire pickup. The charge is $2.50 per tire ($2.00 for senior citizens, 60 and older). Hazardous materials, such as paint and antifreeze, cannot be collected. </FONT></div>

Donate any unsold items to a thrift store or put them out for the special free bulk trash collection Tuesday, May 30. No registration is needed; just hold a sale in front of your home. The event will be advertised in the Washington Post and in the Gazette, so it should be a big success.</FONT></div>

<div><FONT FACE="Times New Roman" SIZE=3> Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day because it was a time set aside to honor the nation's war dead by decorating their graves. The White House issued a "National Moment of Remembrance" resolution in 2000 which asks that "Americans everywhere pause for one minute at 3:00 p.m. (local time) on Memorial Day, to remember and reflect on the sacrifices made by so many to provide freedom for all." At 8 a.m. Monday morning the Veterans Monument Committee will conduct a brief memorial service.</FONT></div>
