On opportunities for action, anyone who is interested in helping out the Town Farmer's Market would be greatly appreciated.

Consider that boosting our customer base at the farmer's market is a great way to showcase the economic development potential of Town Center. The farmer's market is living proof that 'if you build it, they will come'. Over half of our shoppers come from Hyattsville and College Park (in cars) to the market. If we could increase the weekly customer base, that would be a great thing for the community, as well as for the farmers. (And by the way, supporting farmers helps support farmland preservation.)

There are many ways you could help. Publicity is our biggest need. For instance, getting our farmer's market covered in area homeowners newsletters, publications, employee list servs or bulletin boards at nearby offices like the USDA, Riggs, Physics building, CDC, etc. If each volunteer outreached to one big employer for publicity, that would have a big impact. Helping get people signed onto the market list serv is also really effective.

If I were trying to sell the potential of the town center to a developer or lessee, Thursdays would be the day I would pick to schedule tours and walk-throughs. It highlights the liveliness and vitality of the town center, instead of showcasing the tumbling tumbleweeds of ghost town.

Just my 2 cents.

- Alice

I would also like to take some action, but only if I knew what action to take and what it was supposed to accomplish.
