I encourage you to read the article entitled "2 Major Condo Projects Cancelled, As Market Falters, Developers Choose Rental Apartments". It's in the Thursday June 8th Washington Post, Business section, front page (D1).

It's not my intent to derail any plans for Pete and Sons to develop their property. I am in favor of the development as long as it conforms to the MUTC guidelines with emphasis on building height (3 stories max) and parking. I think the historic properties around Dumm's are a very important part of our Town and I don't think they should be overshadowed by a condominium or an apartment building. Density does not necessarily mean economic development. There's plenty of density in the inner-city of most major metropolitan areas, but where's the economic development? Speaking of density, I understand a developer is in the process of purchasing the ERCO property from the University of Maryland. His intent is to build 800 condominiums there.

I could not make it to the meeting last night, but I suspect that the Patriot Group will be applying for an exception with the Town Council. I would appreciated an update from someone who made it to the meeting.
