Hi- full disclosure- my name is Michele Leonardi and I run a very informal e-mail list in UP- I read this list every day and frequently "copy and paste" anything exciting that is going on around your town- our community- I am a native Prince Georgian- growing up in south county (Oxon Hill) currently live in UP and work in Hyattsville- It honestly never occurred to me to distinguish our communities from each other- we are all here together witnessing some potentially great happenings in our neck of the woods and I love to know what is happening all around! How can it not be personal when there's only like 20 active (I stress the
active part) posters on this list? And what YOU are asking for is other
people to tell YOU their opinion, right? It sounds kinda personal. I assume
this is because you not only have an interest, but you think it would make
for better discussion.

I previously addressed you offlist because I didn't see how my post would
really add to the discussion, although I did forget to ask for your
opinion--how would you like to see the TownTalk list run or what purpose do
you think it is best suited for?

I don't think it's well-suited for passionate debate given the current
posting guidelines (somebody always crosses the line, gets moderated, and
either leaves or stops posting their passionate opinions). It's kind of like
an online cafe--some people drop by to post announcements or drop off
flyers, a few are chatting about news or town issues, rumors arise and are
dispelled, and now and again somebody walks in looking for advice related to
losts pets/local contractors or services/etc. Are you concerned that
Riverdale Park itself is not front and center or that not enough
effort/passion is being put toward our town? I'm just trying to get a better
understanding of why you're "cranky."

It's a good way to keep each other informed, get to know one another a
little better, share ideas, and ultimately act as a staging area for real
change and actual activities to begin offlist.

-Marc Molino
4801 Queensbury

From: Lou King <

First - to all of those who've been "keeping an eye"
on my apartment building, thank you. My apartment
faces Lafayette Avenue and the rear of the building,
and I can't see who or what is outside on Ravenswood
Road. I had heard thru the grapevine (not through
management or maintenance) the other week that the
people in one apartment were to be out in 30 days, so
I'm waiting to see if they're gone by the end of this
month. I don't think the problems are all in one
apartment, though; the building is 2 halves, 4701 and
4703 Ravenswood, joined in the basement by a common
laundry area. Thankfully, most of the tenants on my
side (4701) are quiet and don't cause trouble; a few
of them have lived there several years, as I have, and
we are trying to keep the place decent. On 4703, I'm
less sure, as I've seen some people running back and
forth from 4703 to our side to the one "bad" apt.
(that I know of, the one where the tenants were told
to move). I'm hoping and praying that we can get rid
of the troublemakers. The owner, Mr. Wright, IS a
very nice man, but I think he has many irons in the
fire and is very busy. Too, I don't know how much
he's actually been told about what's going on in the
building... If we can get rid of the "baddies," it
will be a relief to be able to enter or exit the
building without feeling that I should be hearing the
theme from "Cops."

____________________________________________________________________________________

I really don't have any other way of knowing about these events. The dress rehearsal in Hyattsville tonight sounds great. Although I am unable to attend, I sent in on to interested friends. The Hyattsville artists market is now something that I am looking forward to.
