Another good option, Bruce. The on-demand water heaters are especially
good for one or two person households. They save a lot of energy by
not keeping the water hot all day and all night. They still run on
fossil fuels, but even solar water heaters need to have a fossil-fueled
heater as a backup in case of long periods of cloudy weather, and of
course they work best in the long days of summer. Also, the solar
heaters are most efficient for people who like to shower at night
rather than in the morning, since they've been heating all day.
They're not ideal, but if we can get the price down (as I think we
can), I am still interested in trying it out.<br>

PV is photovoltaic, so by "PV power" I mean solar electricity. DIY is
do-it-yourself. The quote I got from Chesapeake Solar was $7,250
($3,780 after federal and state incentives) for enough hot water for a
one-to-two-person household, or $8,160 ($4,290 after incentives) for a
3-4 person household. I don't remember what they said the payoff
period would be, but supposedly hot water represents about 15-20% of a
typical household's energy usage. As far as resale value, I don't know
numbers, but I would think that it will only get to be more and more as
conventional energy supplies get tighter.<br>

Can anyone else help with better numbers for estimated payoff times and
resale value?<br>

most of them going out in black garbage bags, and an estimated 27,000
animal control calls a year, you'll need to weigh the life of your
companion versus the possibility that they actually enforce the

I suggest you read the "Adoption Contract" you signed with P.G County
Animal Management Division when you accepted your dog.
On mine right under 'I will feed and get shots' is "I will not sell,
give away or abandon the animal. If I decide to no longer keep this
animal, I will return the animal to the Prince George's County Animal
Management Division."

It has been brought to my attention that my comments could be taken
harshly, which was not my intention. <br>

Upon re-reading I must agree. <br>
<br>
It was not my intention to add stress to the already stressful decision
that you and your son have made to end a two year relationship with
your dog. <br>
<br>
No one should be so presumptuous as to thank they are in a position to
question your decision. I think I understand the "issues" of trying to
share your life with a ~2-year old dog. The two dogs I have gotten from
P.G. county were about 2-years old when I let them choose me. There
have been times when I 'understand' why my companions ended up at the
pound. The point I am trying to make in a clumsy way is that dogs do
mature and settle down. The training suggested in a friendlier way by
others would help that process, If your family can endure. <br>

Please accept my apologizes. If I could help I would. But DVD doesn't
need a pet and I don't have enough hands to scratch behind that many
ears. <br>
