<DIV>Nancy, I'm happy to share what I "know" -- others' mileage may certainly
vary!<BR> </DIV>
<DIV>1. you only need "HD" if you have an "HD" tv.</DIV>
<DIV>(you can get digital with all the works with out having HD)</DIV>
<DIV>2. DVR is Comcast's version of TIVO. they do the same thing (in fact i
think Comcast used TIVO's technology). the advantage of course is that it is
"built in" to their box, and were you to have any problem, you don't have a
third party vendor (TIVO) involved, Comcast would have to solve your
problem! (We have Comcast's DVR, I have no experience with TIVO, so I
can't speak to pros and cons of the two)</DIV>
<DIV>3. Digital voice is fancyspeak for "telephone". If you use your
landline phone a lot, especially for long distance, then you'd probably save
money in Year 1 getting Comcast's "triple play" (cable, internet & phone).
The deal only lasts one year though (at least I searched in vain for any special
discount on the three services beyond Year 1). Keep in mind that if your
cable goes out, so does your phone (though they do have some kind of backup
built in, but it would only last as long as the backup battery's
charge).</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Note: We have Comcast and all its bells & whistles 'cuz my son who
lives with us works for Comcast. So we pay nothing for it. If i were
paying for it I think I'd probably go with one of the satellite tv
services, i think they're still significantly cheaper, certainly in the long
run. Caveat: You wouldn't be able to watch town council meetings on
satellite, though!<BR> </DIV>

-<BR>Okay, so I'm one of THOSE people. I don't have cable. It's not a
political statement, I'm just cheap and have been too busy to watch much
tv.<BR><BR>Nonetheless, I'm thinking about getting cable. I just looked at the
Comcast website to get an idea of their packages, and I was horrified to see
just how out of touch with technology I've become. I get it that I need HD,
but do I need this dvd-r to be able to record stuff? Whatever
happened to tivo? What is digital voice, and why would I
bother? What's up with all of these comcast special offer
websites?<BR><BR>I realize I'm asking a lot, but I'm hoping that there are
some real entertainment techno geeks out there who would love the opportunity
to enlighten me and
