Rather, it is the terms under which they might come that is part of the larger issue, and I have significant doubts that a soccer stadium will produce revenue to cover the cost of bonds for the project. They expected a $47 - 51 million investment of some kind from the county and many millions more from the state. In this economic climate, a risky soccer stadium should not be the top priority. They want a Cadillac stadium at no risk to DC United, the only risk is with the taxpayers. If the owner of the team were to use his own money (as he once told DC he would), I would be open to the team pursuing a stadium here. If he were even to put a significant amount in, we could have a discussion.
