Hi Lisa,

I passed your question on to Code Enforcement Manager Colleen Ferguson. She replied:

Code Enforcement makes every reasonable effort to notify a property owner, by certified mail, of the code violation prior to contracting public works to bring the property into compliance. The Code Enforcement Division not only checks the State Property Records, but also a few of the Prince George’s County Land Record sites. Also posting the property has worked great in obtaining bank contact information. I know some residents are not fond of this method; however, it works- when the bank sends a cleaning/inspecting team to the property the team usually reports the posting to the bank and they call us!
I realize owners should know about the rules regarding lawn care but especially for bank-owned properties they might not be visiting properties to see if they have any warning stickers.
