<P><FONT face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size=2>The Purple Line LPA passes on surface directly through the center of the University of Maryland campus, crossing US 1 on Rossborough Lane to enter the new East Campus Development. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size=2>The transitway would continue on Paint Branch Parkway in a short section of shared lanes to pass under the CSX/Metrorail tracks, entering the College Park Metrorail Station. It integrates with the transit oriented development at the College Park Metrorail Station with convenient connections to the Metrorail Green Line and the MARC Camden Line. The Purple Line would follow the south side of River Road in dedicated lanes before turning right onto Kenilworth Avenue.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size=2>On Kenilworth Avenue, the light rail will follow the west side of Kenilworth Avenue on an elevated aerial structure. The transitway will cross over the MD 201 / MD 410 intersection and turn left into the small triangle formed by East West Highway, Kenilworth Avenue and Riverdale Road. An aerial station would be located here and the site would be ideal for redevelopment as transit oriented development. </FONT></P></FONT></FONT><FONT color=#221e1f><FONT color=#221e1f><FONT color=#221e1f>
<P><FONT face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">The Purple Line LPA is in dedicated lanes on MD 410 (Riverdale Road) and then along the south side of Veterans </FONT></FONT></FONT></FONT><FONT color=#221e1f><FONT color=#221e1f><FONT face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Parkway before turning left onto Ellin Road to arrive at the New Carrollton Metrorail, the eastern terminus of the project. At New Carrollton, the Purple Line will provide convenient connections to the Metrorail Orange Line, the MARC Penn Line, and Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor.</FONT></P>

It's quite loud (sqealing wheels, staccato from the wheels going over the welds in the tracks, horn when the train approaches a tunnel or station) and you often get fireworks when the electrical power contacts frequently make and break connnection with the third rail. So not only do you get the noise, you get the high intensity flashes of light 24/7.</SPAN></P>

I am in West Lanham Hills and the purple line goes next to our neighborhood. I thought the purple line would be just like the red line, blue line, orange line...with the same sound. Am I wrong?. I would not be able to hear it in person if I went to a web site, so if you will tell me where in Baltimore I can view this type of train, I will take a trip and go there and see. It just seems to me that when they put above ground rails in, it is usually near industrial sites or similar sites, this one is going right through our neighborhood, just like years ago with the East West Highway. I think we need to give it a lot more thought before we make another mistake. Are you saying this is not a "Metro or other train" and not fast and loud?</SPAN><SPAN style="COLOR: black"></P></DIV>
