Adrianne and others interested,

It was clear after examining the NIXLE message about commercial "cut through" traffic and some of the criticism and comments about the message, that the intent of the police department, and what has been happening to date, was not coming through.

I therefore instructed the police to redraft a more thoughtful and accurate statement. You will find it below. I hope this clarifies the department's intent.

Best wishes,

Hi Vernon Archer,

Traffic Message has been issued by the Riverdale Park Police Department.

Saturday January 22, 2011 4:47 PM EST

Clarification of prior Nixle message regarding commercial vehicle restrictions in Riverdale Park, Maryland.

The Riverdale Park Police Department would like to clarify a Nixle message that was issued on January 19, 2011 regarding commercial vehicle restrictions and enforcement. The Town is currently replacing several dilapidated commercial vehicle signs that have been removed due to road construction, damaged by road debris/accidents, or weathering. This is not a new initiative being undertaken by the police department in regards to enforcement efforts. The traffic of commercial vehicles has been restricted within the Town for years and such restrictions have been actively enforced; therefore, there is no grace period regarding violations.

This message is being issued to educate the public, businesses, and drivers of commercial vehicles in the area. Signs may be relocated in some instances to more visible and viable locations in an effort to reduce cut-through commercial traffic and improve community awareness.
