Neighbors,

This has been a really interesting discussion. I had my office check (I work with Councilman Eric Olson) because I thought the Calvert House applied for a Special Entertainment Permit awhile back from the Liquor Board per State law. The answer is yes, they did receive a special entertainment permit that
allows music only; dancing is not allowed.
Friday nights they have a band from 10pm-3am. Saturday band from 9pm –
3am. Apparently, no one should be onsite after 3am and they are supposed to have security to
keep an eye on the parking lot and security staff must have security written on
their shirts. Those are the only two nights bands are authorized, I believe. From the dialogue, it sounds like there may be a concern that the restaurant is having dancing which could be in violation of the Special Entertainment permit as well as town regulations, if a permit has not been issued. In may also be in violation of MUTC regulations which govern use in this section of town. Hope this helps.

In the meantime, the concern is not about their restaurant, but their Friday and Saturday late-night events.
Is this what the Town calls economic development? Freydoun (spelling) has been there for 30+ years. A typical day for him is 10am to 4am. Does anyone on distribution work this hard? Is this how we take care of longtime business owners in this town? If there’s an issue with karaoke or whatever, I’m sure Freydoun would be happy to stop that activity until the issue is resolved without the need for signs which state and I quote “No person is to enter the premises without permission of the Town”.

What about their families and their well being? I just talked to Susan (Fredoun’s wife) and she told me the place has been dead since the sign was posted. He has a valid license to operate a restaurant. So what is the problem with him operating the restaurant?

Freydoun told me a few days ago that he’s been cleaning up the parking lot after he closes. I’m guessing that maybe some of the trash behind the building is from McDonald’s patrons parking there after hours. I believe McDonalds is now open for 24 hours. It would be easy to determine if this is the case. Just check to see how much McDonald’s trash is in the back of the Calvert House on a Saturday or Sunday morning.
