The State of Maryland Property Tax Assessment Notices were recently
mailed. There was over a 25% reduction in property values from the
2012 State Assessment. This is the second time property vales have
been reduced due to the economy. The first reduction occurred in
the 2010 State Assessment. Since 2010, there has been approximately
a 45% reduction in property values. The decline in property values
drastically affects property tax revenue that is collected by the
Town of Riverdale Park.

With the additional decline in tax revenues for the next three
years, how does the Mayor and Council purpose to pay for the Youth
and Community Wing project and the purchase of real estate for
$525,000 (abandoned gas station on Route 1). Furthermore, there is
a pending $5,000,000 lawsuit against the Town.

The Mayor and Council need to re-evaluate these gigantic projects to
ensure that the Town of Riverdale Park property tax rates are not
increased to fund these unnecessary expenses.
