Hi James and all interested residents,

Let me clarify a couple of matters you bring up. The master plan would be the next action after the council formally decides on which concept plan to work with--between the one story, two story or some modification thereof. Therefore there is no master plan yet.

Regarding cost estimates for the two proposals it is very difficult to do so with accuracy until there is the detailed construction plan (basically the "master plan"). In very round numbers the estimates I'm working with are the smaller version "one story" plan will cost between $1.5 and $2 Million. The "two story" plan will likely cost between $3 and $3.5 Million.

You and others have brought up the financial concerns about such investment. I will be addressing the general state of the town's finances in my upcoming mayor's report in the Crier and I will also post that report on Town Talk. Thus, I beg your patience to wait for this more detailed evaluation within a couple of weeks. However, let me say that when you look at the whole picture of the town's finances, not just the bad news from the press, you see that the town has a robust and health financial outlook not just for this year but for the coming years as well.

Regarding cable broadcasts, standard town practic is to only broadcast regular Legislative Meetings, however, we are--as has been posted--having another meeting on this Youth and Community wing issue at 7 PM on January 28th and I will see if our broadcaster is available that night to try to give more people a chance to hear and see our architects presentation.

Best wishes,

Vern

On Sat, Jan 19, 2013 at 10:16 AM, James D. Holmes <jdholmes@comcast.net> wrote:
Has anyone seen a Master Plan for the Town Hall expansion project.
I missed the meeting last Wednesday January 16, 2013. I set my VCR
to record the Town's cable TV channel to see the meeting later, but
when I went to watch it, nothing was there. I guess someone forgot
to turn on the camera.

I remember reading that the architect recommended that a Master Plan
for the site be developed. I have looked at the Town's web page and
could not find this document.

I did find another document that explains 2 proposals for the Town
Hall expansion

1. Youth and Community Wing Expansion to Town Hall

One design is a two-story alternative which thoroughly addresses
stated needs and Guiding Design Principles
developed from community input and is presented on the next page.
This design would virtually double the floor space in the building;
substantially improve the flexibility of how the floor space can be
used; and will handle some expansion of demand beyond what we are
currently experiencing (that is to say some additional uses would be
able to be accommodated beyond current demand).

2. Small Addition to Building

The second alternative stays with the existing one-story building,
with only a small addition to the building. This
design concentrates on providing more efficiency and flexibility in
the use of floor space. It would not be able to support some of the
community based activities that were identified earlier in the
planning process, but would represent a significant improvement over
our current Town Hall.

Can anyone advise the approximate cost for each of the 2 proposals.
I remember reading that the Town had $900.000 committed and was
asking the State of Maryland to contribute $500.000 for this
project.
