Friends and neighbors,

As list moderator, I am going to declare this thread now closed. I don't have the technological power to prevent anyone from posting again to the thread, I can only ask that you resist from doing so.

This morning's post by Bruce Wernek sounded very personal. I am consternating over whether it qualifies as "ad hominem," which is something specifically proscribed by the policies established by the town for this e-mail list.

Merriam-Webster defines ad hominem as "marked by or being an attack on an opponent's character rather than by an answer to the contentions made." I think his post entered into a gray area, at the very least.

I thought that a lot of good points, and history, were brought out in this lengthy thread about the Jey's Auto property on Rt. 1. I think, though, that it's fair to say that the relevant issues have now been discussed thoroughly, and viewpoints shared, and that this morning's post may be evidence that there's nothing more that needs be said on that specific topic right now. So let's declare it closed and move on. (There are of course the official proceedings, and everyone is encouraged to attend and participate in those meetings, which is, after all, where the actual decisions are made.)

As noted on this list yesterday, tomorrow, March 5th, brings us to within 60 days of our municipal election to be held on Monday, May 6th. And as a result, the 'no electioneering' provisions of the TownTalk guidelines will kick in. I will post the moderator's thoughts on that not later than sometime tomorrow. Thanks.
