<div dir="ltr">Bruce's point is a good one. Even 10 years ago, I pointed to Riverdale Park's example as the best and easiest option to achieve most of what Hyattsville was trying to achieve in changing the zip code. Before I'd moved to Hyattsville, a charette process had recommended that the name be changed to Hyatts Village, which I thought was an excellent choice. <div>
<br></div><div>However, as it happens, it's actually a lot easier to ask an outside body to change in order to benefit our local municipality than ask the local citizenry to change ourselves. As we learned, though, you're not likely to get the outside organization to change, whereas we would have had the power to make the name change.</div>
<div><br></div><div>I've always admired Riverdale Park for having the foresight and courage to effect the name change. And I agree with Jonathan that the change has had a positive effect on property values in the Town. </div>
