Lions Club Scholarships For GPAs, Service</span></b></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Riverdale Park,
MD.  Feb. 26, 2014</b> -- The
Riverdale Lions Club and Riverdale Park Council member Jonathan Ebbeler (Ward
1) today announced the winners of their second annual scholarship program that
recognizes a pair of area students with $1,000 each in scholarship funding to
help further their educations. </p><p class="MsoNormal"><br></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Carol Anne
Bosco</b>,
of College Park, and <b>Kelsey Jarman</b>,
of Riverdale Park, will receive awards this evening (Wednesday) when the Lions
meet at the Riverdale Park Town Hall at 7 pm. <b><span style="line-height:115%">Lucia Kilday</span></b><span style="line-height:115%">, an 18-year-old Hyattsville resident
who attends Bladensburg’s Elizabeth Seton High School, will receive an
honorable mention along with a $500 scholarship. </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><br></p><p class="MsoNormal">The
students were selected for their top-end grade point averages and for their
on-going commitments to community service.<br></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:16pt"><br></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:16pt">Carol Anne Bosco began playing the cello in
school when she was 10 years old. After graduating from Florida State
University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance, she moved to New
Orleans to expand her musical vocabulary outside of classical playing, as well
as to teach with the Youth Orchestra of the Lower 9^th Ward. </p>

">Carol Anne is now attending school at the
University of Maryland and working towards an MM in Music Performance. While
participating in the University Symphony and Opera, as well as various chamber
ensembles, the DC-based orchestra Avanti Chamber Orchestra, and the occasional
theater pit, she teaches lessons and continues to experiment with adapting the
cello to alternative styles of music ranging from Irish folk groups to her
indie rock trio, Call of Crows. The cellist delighted a packed house last
August when she debuted in Riverdale Park at the Riverdale Park Arts Council’s
Summer Patio Concert Series and was invited back to perform at the series “best
of” concert the following month. </p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:16pt"><span style="line-height:16pt">                                                                             </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="color:rgb(26,26,26)">“I'm
so grateful for all that the Riverdale Lions Club has done for me, Carol Anne
said. “It is a wonderful feeling to be recognized in such a way!”</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Kelsey
Jarman, 19, <span style="line-height:115%">an exercise science major at Towson
University, is a sophomore who hopes to become a physical therapist. She is a
second-time winner of the Lions’ $1,000 scholarship who completed her last
semester with a 4.0 grade-point average. She has a cumulative
grade-point-average of 3.93 over the past three semesters.  A wholly dedicated student, Kelsey has
classes Wednesday evenings so her parents Doug (aka Mister Magic) and Lori
Jarman will accept her award this evening.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="line-height:115%"><br></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="line-height:115%">Lucia Kilday rows on the varsity crew team and
she </span><span style="line-height:115%;color:rgb(26,26,26)">is the leader of the Yoga Club, and a member of
Ambassadors and Scholars at Seton. Lucia also does extensive volunteer work at
Providence Hospital as well as other local community organizations. Stuart Eisenberg,
her proud dad, also reports that she’s not a bad photographer either. Lucia
said she plans to major in health sciences and eventually become a physician
assistant. </span><span style="line-height:115%"></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><br></p><p class="MsoNormal">The
Riverdale Park Lions-Jonathan Ebbeler Scholarship Awards were created in 2012 by
then-King Lion Guy Tiberio and Councilman Ebbeler. Both felt there were plenty
of area students who regularly participated in community service and maintained
high grade-point averages who were in need of educational funding. Their goal
was two-fold: to reward the students’ hard work and community service and to
inspire others to achieve higher goals. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><br></p><p class="MsoNormal">Lion
Guy Tiberio died Feb. 16 after a bout with cancer. He would have celebrated his
86^th birthday today, Feb. 26. The Riverdale Lions Club will honor
the co-founding member of their 43-year-old chapter this evening at 7 at Town
Hall with a special meeting dedicated to his honor. The meeting is open to all
and all are invited to celebrate Guy Tiberio’s life and service to Riverdale
Park, Edmonston and surrounding communities. <span style="line-height:115%">Hors d'oeuvres, Crudités</span><span style="line-height:115%"> and beverages will be served. </span></p>

"><br></p><p class="MsoNormal">The Lions Club
and Council member Ebbeler were impressed with the applications they received
and are excited to be able to continue offering educational scholarships to
area students. This year, the Town of Riverdale Park’s council voted to
contribute an additional $500 to the Lions Club scholarship fund. The
contribution goes a long way to bolstering the annual awards program.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><br></p><p class="MsoNormal">“The
Lions Club is thrilled to create these scholarships and proud of our young
winners who exemplify the energetic and smart generation that will make
tomorrow’s leaders and tomorrow’s Lions,” said King Lion Patrick Prangley. “I
salute Councilman Ebbeler, who represents the essence of what it means to be a
Lion. We thank him and the late King Lion Guy for their hard work in creating
this wonderful scholarship program two years ago.”</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Prangley
added, “the Lions also thank Jonathan for his generous financial contribution
to these scholarships and his tireless efforts to find such impressive and
worthy winners. And we are delighted that the Riverdale Park Town Council has
come aboard to help us help deserving students. We invite all area businesses
and individuals who can contribute to help us in this very worthy cause. You
can do it in the memory of Guy!”</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><br></p><p class="MsoNormal">The Lions Club International is a
97-year-old secular service organization with nearly 1.4 million members
worldwide and is perhaps best known for its work with the blind and for its
hearing and speech conservation, diabetes awareness and youth outreach
programs. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The
Riverdale Lions Club, chartered in 1971, last year provided eye exams and
glasses for more than 60 Riverdale area youth and needy persons, and
distributed more than 50 food baskets to under privileged families at
Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Each
year, the group collects hundreds of used pairs of eyeglasses that are
refurbished and sent to people in need. <span style="line-height:115%">The Riverdale Lions Club is also a significant
contributor to community arts and youth programs and last summer was the
primary sponsor of the Riverdale Park Arts Councils’ inaugural Summer Patio
Concert Series.</span></p>
