July 17, 2014</span></b><span style="font-size:10pt;color:black"> – </span><span style="font-size:10pt;color:rgb(20,20,20)">LeDroit Chamber Players featuring</span><span style="font-size:10pt"> oboist
<b>Alison Lowell</b> and <span style="color:rgb(20,20,20)">guitarist <b>Benjamin
Altman</b> open the </span><b><span style="color:green">2014 Summer Patio Concerts</span></b><span style="color:rgb(20,20,20)"> series at 7 this evening at Town Center Market in
downtown Riverdale Park. The one hour live performance will feature </span></span><span style="font-size:10pt;color:rgb(26,26,26)">works by composers such as Paganini, </span><span style="font-size:10pt;color:rgb(66,66,66)">Françaix</span><span style="font-size:10pt;color:rgb(26,26,26)"> and Coste. </span><span style="font-size:10pt;color:black">The free, one-hour</span><span style="font-size:10pt;color:rgb(26,26,26)"> concert marks the beginning
of the Riverdale Park Arts Council’s second annual 10-week music series on the
patio that features young artists </span><span style="font-size:10pt;color:black">performing
a variety of musical genres. The shows will be held each Thursday at 7 pm
following the Riverdale Park Farmers Market.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:black"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:black">“This
concert series gives University of Maryland School of Music students the
experience of performing live in an outdoor venue while the community enjoys
talented and up-and-coming young artists in a wonderful and relaxed
environment,” said professor <b>Robert
DiLutis</b>, Chairman of the Clarinet Department. The Riverdale Park resident
added, “We are delighted to present another season of amazing entertainment to
the area’s growing cultural calendar.” </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:black"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:rgb(26,26,26)">LeDroit
Chamber Players takes its name from the neighborhood in Washington, DC,
inspired by the town's artistic lineage, iconic architecture and important
historic past. </span><span style="font-size:10pt">Lowell<b> </b></span><span style="font-size:10pt">is
a passionate arts advocate. As Principal Oboist of the KwaZulu-Natal
Philharmonic Orchestra in South Africa, she premiered new works at the National
Arts Festival, Classic FM Johannesburg, the Unyazi Electronic Music Festival
and performed the Strauss Oboe Concerto as a featured soloist. In 2009, she received
the prestigious “Investing in Artists Grant” from the Center for Cultural
Innovation for an extended-range oboe. She is currently pursing a doctorate at
the University of Maryland.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><b><span style="font-size:10pt;color:rgb(26,26,26)"> </span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:rgb(26,26,26)">Altman
relies on robust techniques and makes the music both sound and appear
effortless. He is an active concertizer, chamber musician, and concerto
soloist. Recent performances include concerts with the Colorado Guitar Quartet,
the trio Magpie, the 'Fresh City Life" series at the Denver Public
Library, and Joaquin Rodrigo's famous <i>Concierto de Aranjuez</i> with
the Macon Symphony Orchestra. Altman earned the degree of Doctor of Musical
Arts at the Eastman School of Music and studied previously at the Peabody
Institute and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:black"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:black">Town Center
Market offers craft beer “Pint Night” discounts, bottled beer and fine wine
tastings during the concert series. Concert-goers are encouraged to purchase
dinners at the Farmers Market or order from the Dumm’s Pizza & Subs menu. </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt"><span style="font-size:10pt;color:black">The patio
concert series runs through mid-September. In case of inclement weather,
concerts will be held inside Town Center Market at 4705 Queensbury Rd.,
Riverdale Park.</span></p>
