It chronicles the founding and early history of the oldest black women's organization in America. Mary Church Terrell, women's right activist, served as the first president. Harriet Tubman attended the founding of the organization in 1896. It has led efforts to champion equality and women rights. It was established in Washington DC during the progressive era.
