I assume you know as I do that back when our grandparents were immigrating here the rules were different. To compare immigrants from 100 years ago to those immigrating now is kind of apples and oranges. To be more precise, our grandparents would have a very difficult time getting naturalized now - regardless of how hard they worked. </span><span style="color: rgb(40, 40, 40); font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">Generally, permission to enter and stay in the country as a documented immigrant is limited to people who are highly trained in a skill that is in short supply here and have been offered a job by a U.S. employer, are escaping political persecution, are joining close family already here or are winners of the green-card lottery.
