I am teaching research methods to a class of 9 graduate students in historic preservation at the University of Maryland this fall. As with the past three years, we will be selecting properties in Riverdale Park to conduct complete property histories,
which include pubic records searches; investigations of historic newspapers, maps and photos; and a profile of previous residents of the houses. At the end of the semester, in December, the students will make a public presentation of their findings here in
Riverdale and provide each property owner with a summary history of their house.

If you live in one of Riverdale Park's older houses (pre-1940) and are curious about its past, this is a great opportunity to get some free research from an aspiring historic preservationist. Also, I hope that this research, and the work of previous years,
will become a resource for the town's centennial celebrations. Students have conducted research on approximately 35 properties in Riverdale Park.
