Next Monday, August 1, the Town Council will have its monthly
legislative session at 8 pm, Town Hall, 5008 Queensbury Road. This
monthly meeting is where most of the business of the Town is decided.
All residents are encouraged to attend to learn about what is
happening in town, and to bring up any concerns they might have. As
of last Tuesday, the only items on the agenda were approval of
minutes from previous meetings. Anyone wanting more information
about this meeting can call Town Hall at (301) 927-6381.
Tuesday, August 2, will have two events.
First, the entire evening of August 2 is "National Night Out". All
residents are encouraged to get out of their houses or apartments,
meet neighbors, learn about anticrime programs, and send a message to
criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and
fighting back. The Riverdale Police Department will have a
heightened presence on the streets of the town, and citizens should
feel free to wave them down and discuss any issues of concern. To
learn more about National Night Out visit
http://www.nationalnightout.org/nno/index.html or call the Riverdale
Police Department at 301-927-4343.
The second event on August 2 is a meeting of the Communications
Committee, at 8 pm in Town Hall, 5008 Queensbury Road. The
Communications Committee is working to create a sustainable and
coordinated communications foundation across multiple media outlets,
including the town's cable television channel, web site, newsletter,
and e-mail lists like this one. Anyone interested in helping design
and/or create any part of this foundation should attend. To learn
more about the Communications Committee you can learn about (and sign
up for) the [RP ComTalk] e-mail list at
http://mail.riverdale-park.org/mailman/listinfo/comtalk_riverdale-park.org
or contact committee chair Alan Thompson at 301-927-7407.
The regular monthly meeting of the Mixed Use Town Center
Architectural Review committee, scheduled for August 3, has been
cancelled because there are no applications requiring review.
Upcoming events:
The Legislative Committee of the Town Council will meet on Wednesday,
August 10 (discussion items will include the duties of the Deputy
Town Administrator).
The Recreation Board will meet on Monday, August 15.
To have your event included in future RP Town Announce mailings,
please send a short note describing it to listmaster at
ci.riverdale-park.md.us. For details of any of these events please
call the town offices during business hours at (301) 927-6381. You
can also reply to this message and I will try to find an answer to
any question you might have.
