Ok,
I'm sorry. I ignored the first suggestion of this, but now I have to speak
up.
Turning Riverdale Park into a gate community is the worst idea that I've
heard on this subject yet. (short of going to gravel streets that is, but that
was tongue and cheek).
You said that we have to take control. But you really mean that we need to
hide behind steel gates. That IS NOT taking control.
If this community becomes gated:
-We will NEVER get businesses into the Town Center. EVER. No business in the
world is going to move to an area where their sales are limited to a
segregated few. We may even lose the businesses that are already there.
-How do you include the portion of Riverdale that is on the West side of
Route 1? Yes, check the maps. Riverdale Park is on the other side of Route 1 too.
-Marc trains will shoot straight through Riverdale Park to College Park
without stopping. Guaranteed.
-The fire department will no longer be able to support other communities
efficiently, and vise versa.
-Paying for this will mean a serious need to increase property tax to pay
for it. And I'm not even going there.
-I would be leaving this community. I was born in DC and raised in PG. And I
will not cower away from traffic or crime. I want to live in an open
community. I want to continue to curse the elitist society of University Park, and
insist that the "blockade" that they established where Queens Chapel and EW
highway be blown to smithereens!
If either of you or any that support your notion of gating our wonderful
town, in order to cower from the rest of society, continue to think that this is
a good idea. I'd like to invite you to sell your homes and move to an already
established sterile-gated-Disneylike community far far away.
I'm sorry.
This is a very bad idea.
