On June 8-9, College Park is hosting a computer recycling event. It's
free and a great way to dispose of old technology stuff. Details
below.

Time to Recycle Your Old Personal Electronic Equipment
WHAT:
The University of Maryland and the City of College Park, in partnership with
Apple Computer, Inc., are sponsoring a computer recycling event to give
faculty, staff, students, and local residents the opportunity to properly
dispose of their unwanted computer equipment. The equipment will be disposed
of in an environmentally-friendly manner. All hard drives will be shredded
and other materials will be recycled. Volunteers will be on site to help
unload equipment. University-owned computers cannot be recycled at this
event. There is no cost for this service, and no limit to the amount of
approved items you can drop off.
WHEN:
Friday, June 8, 3 p.m. until 6 p.m., and Saturday, June 9, 9 a.m. until 3
p.m.
WHERE:
Parking Lot 4i on the University of Maryland campus ( Paint Branch Road
across from the Comcast Center .) Signs will be posted with directions.
(Take first right off Campus Drive onto Paint Branch and follow the signs.
The recycling event is on your right past the Field Hockey and Lacrosse
Complex.)
BACKGROUND:
Apple accepts the following items for recycling:
Cell phones, computer speakers, CPUs, CRT monitors, CRT or LCD televisions
(no wood console or projections), desktop copiers, DVD players, external
floppy/hard drives, home stereo systems (no wood speakers), keyboards/mice,
laptops, LCD displays, PDAs, printers, scanners, servers, and standard
computer-related peripherals.
Apple cannot accept the following:
Batteries not integral to a computer system, cracked or broken CRT monitors
or televisions, hazardous materials of any type, household appliances of any
type, large floor standing copiers, projection televisions, UPS systems with
lead acid batteries, wood console televisions, or wood speakers.
