There was another guy last week standing in front of an empty house on
Queensbury. He stopped me on my way home from work to tell me that it was
his house, but that he was just in town for a few days and he needed to rent
the house out while he was here. He wanted me to come inside with him,(As
if I were born yesterday). I said it was a nice house, but I'll take your
number and call you. That's when it got really weird. "I can't give you my
office number because I don't know it, but I can give you my secretarie's
home number", he says, pulling oput a cheesy old cell phone. I looked
around and he had no car with him, either. "Oh,", he says, "my driver will
be right back." I started to walk away and he folllowed me toward the Marc
station trying to convince me - in a very aggressive tone to come in and see
the house. I told him to leave me alone or I will call the police. He
leaves me then and starts following some guy down the other side of the
street. He was a good looking guy, but his story just didn't fit. Wierd,
huh?

I agree about the dog alarm - very few people come anywhere near my house.
:-)

By the way - Crescent Cities is having it's annual Flea Market on the 18th
at the Center 8AM - 4 PM. Vendors - $25 for the day - first come first
serve. They will also be selling jerked chicken lunches for $6.00 from 12 -
1:30 at the same event. I hear last year's flea market was a huge success.
Residents of the Center will be selling their handiwork as well. No... CCC
is not charging them for a table. LOL See you there!

Sue

so theres a guy (or 2) who has been going door to door for a few days now,
selling security systems. he has a white hat, and a white shirt that says
"honeywell" (no business card by the way) and approached me about 5 minutes
ago to tell me that there have been a few robberies in the neighborhood
lately and asked me a bunch of questions about my present home security
system (that is scary in itself)... we have ADT and he told me that what
they are doing now is cutting the phone lines and then breaking into the
house... i thanked him for his time, and told him we were happy with our
service. as i was walking away he reminded me that they cut the phone lines
so that ADT doesn't work anymore and then break in and his system was free
with a comparable monthly charge... its the newest technology he says. he
should have left it alone... i told him that he shouldn't come into
someone's neighborhood and try to scare them into buying his product. he
had some stats from the polic e department to spout off when i said our
neighborhood was safe... i should have thrown the town crier in his face (i
was holding it at the time.) he was rude and yucky... same guy was in
edmonston on monday and had a friend of mine all signed up for his "free"
service, gathering lots of private information, calling it into
"headquarters" and then after paperwork was done he said, "oh and you know
about the monthly service charge?" he told her "everyone knows there is a
monthly charge to have a security system in your house" and they immediately
called it off. anyways, hes yucky and i don't like people trying to scare
me into stuff... especially if they are knocking on my door. if you see
him, you now have a heads up. yuck. -drena galarza (nicholson street)

Drena,
Did you call our Code Enforcement? To do business in town they must go
through the town first. If you don't call Code Enforcement can't do their
job.

Drena,

Thanks so much for the neighborly warning. The same guys were on our street
today and rang my doorbell. I was on the phone at the time and didn't really
get what they were saying - something about free security service. I
thought "yeah, right" but they said they'd come back at a better time and I
just shut the door. I should have told them to get lost, and I'll certainly
do so if I see them again.

I think our dog is an excellent security system anyway, with the only
monthly charge being dog food. :)

Thanks again,
Kate Sharpe
