[RP TownTalk] Queensbury road burglary

I think that comparing notes with our neighbors who aren't on this list is a
great idea. Both to see if we (and the police) can get a fuller picture of
what's going on AND to make sure that everyone knows to be vigilant.

I'll go a further than Vern: yes, it's up to the police to respond to the
situation, but I don't think that we can sit back and let them take care of
it. If we want safe neighborhoods, we need take steps to make them safe.
There's only so much that the police can do.

I don't exactly know what steps we need to take, certainly open to
suggestions. I think that working together is important - among ourselves
and with the police.

Should all of us start comparing notes with neighbors that aren't online &
on towntalk?

Not surprising, though. It's probably the same bunch of bad guys (yes, I'm
assuming that they're males), and bad guys are usuallly not very creative.
They do the same thing over and over again, thinking that if it works once
(or more), it will keep working. Apparently it is, so far. I don't know if
this can help any of us to make our properties more secure, but I find it
helpful to know what's going on.

Sorry, another question. Day-time, when most everyone is off at work? Or
night-time, while folks are home and asleep?

I hate to make a chilling observation, but I think it's important. Before I
moved here, I lived in Takoma Park where we had this kind of crime wave
every once in a while. Muggings in addition to break-ins. The particular
danger when drugs are involved is that the perpetrator has even less
inhibitions than you might expect about resorting to violence. My ex-husband
was mugged on the street near our house, and the police told us that some
drugs (they suspected pcp, in this particular case) make one feel
invincible. The impulse to run when caught is overwhelmed by the impulse to
overtake any challenger.

What can / are we willing to do to send these guys on their way? Or better,
make sure they get caught?

I believe (though I am not at all sure, and as they no longer have a
computer :-( so they can't answer for themselves) the burglars found a door
in the back that they could shove open (though it apparently took some
work.) As their back door is hidden from the street view, they had plenty of
time to do this unobserved.

I find it interesting/disturbing that this is the same pattern noted by Mark
Molino's neighbor.
