Excuse me while I get my soapbox situated. OK the old coot is ready.
How can you have a informative balanced discussion about alternative
energy in Takoma Park, a nuclear free zone? There is no one answer to
the problem of providing the energy the world is projected to need and
maintain the life we have become accustom to. Nor can we afford to
exclude an answer that already provides 20% of our electricity and 80%
of Frances.
I do hope the 17th is a sunny day do the cookies will bake. Monday
there was an interesting story on NPR about how the U.S. drive for
ethanol has caused U.S. farmers to grow more corn. Which has reduced the
U.S. production of soybeans, which has caused Brazilian farmers to try
to grow more to meet the world protein need by burning the Amazon rain
forest. Net balance in CO2?
We need to look at the total picture, all the effects, the total cost of
each solution to a problem.
In that light, how many acres of Amazon rain forest are required to run
a tofu-powered lawn mower? And what does that have to do with native
landscape?
This is fun but I have to go to the periodontist.
Old coot's keeper,
Lou
