Subject: Riversdale Events Coming 'Atcha

Hi all! I hope you've all found some time to enjoy the lovely weather
we've been having. Perhaps you were even able to visit the grounds for
Riverdale Park Day this past weekend. I've got 3 events in October &
November to give you a heads up about. So check your calendars and
sign up!

October 24 marks our eerie Gothick Evening; you might want to leave
the little ones home for this one. Forget about Poe, forget about
Stoker! The New Old Theater Company, based out of Takoma Park, will
surely have us on the edge of our seats as they treat us to a staged
reading of J.R. Planche's 1820s "The Vampire or Bride of the Isles" -
the very first vampire play ever written! Enjoy funereal refreshments
afterwards during which the actors will be circulating. Tickets are
$20 per person and space is filling up quickly!

And now onto November!

Tongue-in-cheek SNL impressions aren't the only entertainment to be
had during this election season. Kids who are out of school on
Election Day can have some fun of their own with our special Political
Animals Hands on History program. Participants will bake an Election
Day Cake, a New England tradition with more variations than you'd know
what to do with (here's one of the popular ones:
http://whatscookingamerica.net/History/Cakes/ElectionCake.htm), in our
open hearth kitchen. We've also got some fun crafts & activities lined
up that focus on the Democratic Elephant, Republican Donkey, and
Progressive Bull Moose. Like all of our Hands on History Days, the
program runs from 10am-3pm and costs $15 for Prince George's &
Montgomery County residents and $18 for any out-of-countiers you'd
like to share this with! Hands on History days have proven to fill up
quickly and this one is no exception, so sign up early! Flyers went
out to UPES last week, so keep an eye out for them in the bottoms of
those backpacks!

Lastly, take a load off and relax old-fashioned style for a Ladies'
Regency Day in the Country on Saturday, November 15. Ladies will
participate in cooking workshops, make a period fashion book, Regency
readings courtesy of our docent and published author, Janet Mullany,
and more! The afternoon will end on a high note as participants enjoy
tea accompanied by Regency music and harp demonstrations. This is
perfect (and unique!) gift or treat for any Regency or Jane Austen
enthusiast you might know of! Registration is $50 for Prince George's
& Montgomery Counties and $60 for everyone else.

As always, if you'd like to register or if you've any questions, shoot
me an email at samantha.ferris at pgparks.com, respond to this message,
or call the office at 301.864.0420.

That about wraps it up for the next couple of months. Stay tuned for a
jam-packed schedule of holiday events in December including our annual
favorites, Sint Niklaas Day for Children and The Calverts by
Candlelight.

Until then, enjoy all the fall fun you can handle! Happy pumpkin
picking :o)

Samantha
