"Winters are often harsh here." Where on the continent are you from? I grew up near the Kansas/Missouri border, and have lived in Chicago, Denver, and Cleveland. We vacation in Ontario. We don't even have winter here. Get a grip people; this was a mild inconvenience that is a very rare occurance. Those of us who have been through a real prairie blizzard with no power and 6-8 foot snow drifts think this was a picnic. My spouse was annoyed because he tried to go out for breakfast Sat. morning and everywhere was closed. Then the grocery store closed while he was trying to shop. All that said, there is a reason at our ages (over 60) that we live in this lovely climate. However, the cost benefit analysis for maintaining snow removal equipment and materials for the rare snow storm here simply does not balance. Happy Holidays to All, Nina

I'm extremely disappointed in Riverdale Park's lax, unitelligent, ineffectual response to this recent snow. The town's excuses for delayed or even no snow plowing and salt spreading are just plain unacceptable. We pay good, hard-earned tax money for supposedly professional services to keep our streets clear in a winter emergency. We should not have to clear the streets ourselves. Maryland is not the Sun Belt, for pete's sake. Winters are often harsh here, and our town services need to prepare accordingly. For the money we pay, there should be no salt shortage, no malfunctioning equipment....no boatload of lame excuses! To echo another Towntalk poster, if I displayed the same kind of attitude and weak response on my job, I'd be fired. It's disgusting to read the comments along the lines of "Oh, Kumbaya, Kumbaya....shoveling snow brought me and my neighbors closer together" Folks, quit settling for mediocrity. Quit enabling the Town of Riverdale
Park!

Art Saggs
