Hi folks! I hope you are all enjoying a bright and shiny start to 2009!
I wanted to let you know about a great program we've got going on at the
end of the month! Usually, our Hands-On History Days are geared towards
8-12 year olds, but every so often, we run one for the littler 5-7 year
olds. Some of your children participated in our first HoH Days for
younger kids over the summer during the Fairytale Days camp. On Friday,
January 30 (kids are off from school for a teacher grading day) from 2-4
pm, Riversdale presents its very first Teddy Bear Tea!
Participants and their teddy bear of choice are invited to learn about
the history of the teddy bear through stories, play bear-themed games,
create a fun craft to take home, and end the afternoon with a tea party!
Children can even get themselves dolled up if they like! Just a note
that this is not a "girly" tea - it's open to all children and the first
to sign up for this program was a gentleman!
On Presidents' Day, Monday, February 16, from 10am-3pm, Riversdale's
Hands-On History: The Confectioner's Apprentice will be a sweet treat
for any of your 8-12 year olds who are off for the school holiday!
Participants step back in time as they become apprentices to the
confectioner, who made candies and sweets 200 years ago. They'll try
their hand at making several sweetmeats, including candied orange peel,
sugar sculptures, ice cream, lemon drops, and more! Kids will definitely
enjoy this program - and you might even be able to enjoy some of the
goodies they take home!
Both Hands-on History programs are $15 for residents of Prince George's
and Montgomery Counties and $18 for non-residents.
Registration for these programs always fills up FAST! Call 301.864.0420
or email me at samantha.ferris at pgparks.com to make your reservations
today!! Use that contact for any questions, too!!!
Teddy Bear Tea flyers were sent to Riverdale ES and all other local
elementary schools. Confectioner's Apprentice flyers are on their way. I
would greatly appreciate it if one or two of you would respond to this
message and let me know if the flyers were sent home. The programs at
Riversdale are created for the public - they're for YOU! I just want to
make sure you're getting the info!
Hopefully I'll be seeing you and your children soon!
Cheers!
Samantha
