Thank you. I lived in Italy for over 20 years as an American citizen and was given an open-ended residence permit. I was entitled to gov't subsidized health care like all Italian citizens are and just about the only thing I couldn't do was vote. No one ever railed against me for working or using the hospital, and no one denigrated me for speaking Italian with an accent. The idea that anyone can be stopped on the street in Arizona and possibly arrested just because someone thinks they look "foreign" is crazy in a multi-cultural society like ours.

"One other point,: Why is it important that everyone here become a U.S.
citizen? If I move to Costa Rica or Mexico or Italy, should I be
forced to renounce my U.S. citizenship and join their club? As long as
I pay my taxes to the local authorities, obey their laws, what's the
difference? How many foreigners - non U.S. citizens -- do you think
are serving in the U.S. military in Afghanistan or Iraq?"
