Well, obviously we all have our own opinions on people newly arrived to this great country and I doubt any of us will change those opinions. I guess where I'm uncomfortable is with the attitude so many people have (not necessarily people who've posted here) is, "if they look foreign, they must be illegal." And let's not kid ourselves, that attitude is out there. And if that attitude is out there, what is the next step for people who believe that? Vigilantism? Sadly, that could happen.
Yes, a lot of people from other countries are receiving assistance. On the other side, there are many, many foreign-born people who are working 2 or more jobs just so their kids can have a better life than they do. Yes, we have to consider crime, drugs, etc.; I do not countenance any of that type of activity by ANYONE. Guess what I'm really trying to say is, most of the people who've come here illegally, that's probably the only law they've broken; unfortunately, it's the gang members, drug dealers, etc., who get most of the publicity.
I am going to bow out of the discussion and again say that the posts I read, whether or not I agreed with them, gave much food for thought.
I will leave you now with the probable words of the Indians in the Americas upon seeing the first European explorers - "there goes the neighborhood."
