Dear Supporters of Youth Soccer in Prince George 's County,

Come join us and have your younger players Kindergarten - 7th Grade play soccer on Saturday mornings with us this Fall, starting September 18th and ending November 6th.  For this our eleventh season, we are continuing to refine our program with a new 7th Grade Division, details to follow!

Prince George’s Soccer, Inc. (PGSI) is again sponsoring PGSI Small-Sided Soccer in Magruder Park in Hyattsville.  Last spring we had 32 teams participating from local clubs including College Park, New Hope Academy and LUP.

PGSI Small-Sided Soccer is not part of the county Boys and Girls Club soccer program. PGSI is affiliated with Maryland State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA). Our focus is on player fun and development, so no standings or scores are recorded. It is designed to be simple for players, coaches, and administrators. All games will be played in Magruder Park on Saturday mornings. This same-place, same-time schedule makes it easier for parents to organize their weekends. We are open to players from all programs and areas, including schools, churches and neighborhood groups. Players from DC and other counties in Maryland are welcome.

DIVISIONS
Five co-ed divisions—K (players born in 2006 through Kindergarten), 1st/2nd grade, 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade and 7th grade. Kids can play up one division at the discretion of their Club. Teams change division in the fall, following the school year pattern.

REGISTRATION
Designed to be simple for parents.
There are two forms to register.  A PGSI form and a MSYSA form for insurance (you’ll need your child’s doctor’s information and health insurance information if you have insurance for the form).

Insurance is provided by Maryland State Youth Soccer Association through PGSI. Completed MSYSA forms and excel data file for players and coaches must be submitted with payment as part of the registration process.

If you are interested in coaching, MSYSA is now requiring background checks for all coaches.  We will provide the MSYSA information for completing the background check separately.

All registration information is due by September 10th, if there is a problem please contact Marc Tartaro and make alternate arrangements.

FEES
Designed to be affordable.
The 2010 annual fee for PGSI Soccer is $70 per player.  Uniforms are optional and cost $40.
Accepted: Cash, Money Order, or Check made out to PGSI. No refunds.

Tentative SCHEDULE
Designed to be simple enough for busy families to remember.

Six games, one rainout, one tournament.  Schedule posted on PGSoccer website.
Saturday mornings, Sept. 18 –Nov. 6
Earliest game: starts at 9:00 am (typically 10 am)         Latest game:  starts at 12:00 noon
Tournament Date: Nov. 6
Game schedule for first weekend only released via email and web:  September 15.

FIELD SIZE/GAME RULES
Designed to be age-appropriate and to maximize passing and shooting (and fun). All children are required to wear shin guards for practices and games.

4v4 (Kindergarten, 1st/2nd grade divisions)
The field is 15 yards wide by 30 yards long with 6 foot-wide goals. There is a half-circle no-player zone painted in front of the
goal. This zone keeps the goal mouth clear and avoids the need for goalies.

5v5 (3rd/4th grade division)
The field is 20 yards wide by 40 yards long with a pair of 6 foot-wide goals at each end of the field. The goals are set 6 feet apart, placing them where the corner of junior size goals would be located. Points are scored by getting the ball into the net, no points for shots into the gap between the goals. Both goalies are rotated after each score. See rule sheet for details.

6v6 (5th/6th grade division)
The field is 30 yards wide by 50 yards long with Junior size soccer goals (6.5 feet by 18 feet) at each end of the field.  Both goalies are rotated after each score (optional but recommended). See rule sheet for details.

New 7h grade division
We are determining the format and filed size and will send out more information shortly.

Games start on the hour and have four 10 minute quarters with 2 minutes between quarters for K  and 1st/2nd grade divisions, 3rd/4th grade and older player 20 minute halves. If a team does not show up or is short players, other teams will be asked to lend players so games can be played. No goalies. No throw-ins, just kick-ins. Games end at 10 till the hour, regardless of start time. Start on time, have more fun!

Games are run cooperatively by one adult from each team. During each play period, one adult should be on the field to maximize the learning experience and to keep the game flowing. Referees are not needed.

Substitutions are allowed only at the beginning of a quarter, or anytime a player is injured or exhausted, not for game management. This substitution rule lets the kids play without interruption.

For safety and fair play, rosters will be spot checked on the field by PGSI officials. For insurance reasons, players not on the roster can play only after the player form is completed and any additional fees are paid.

END OF SEASON TOURNAMENT
Designed for player excitement!

The end-of-season tournament is included in the team fee. Each team plays three games. Tournament games last 20 minutes. Each player receives a participation ribbon.

WE ARE A VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION
Your participation is critical to providing a quality experience for all of the children.  We do not ask parents to do fundraising instead we ask for Parents to help out coaching and support the program in other ways.
