RIVERDALE, Md. - Prince George's County police shut down an illegal jewelry
operation and confiscated more than $100,000 in mostly gold jewelry. They
say most of it is likely stolen.

In a sting, investigators say one of the operators knowingly bought stolen
jewelry. Undercover officers approached her at a kiosk in a Riverdale
grocery store.

Then in a raid on a home on nearby Hamilton Street, officers say they found
a workshop for melting jewelry down. Also in that home: an illegal grocery
store.

One person has been arrested. The investigation is ongoing. Officers say
they are looking to see if the jewelry they confiscated matches any
reported stolen pieces.

If so, they are hoping to reunite it with its owner.****
